How To Measure Your Dog

Measuring your pet when selecting a collar or T-Shirt or coat is the most important thing in order to get a correct fit.

With the wide variety of apparel and accessories available for pets, choosing the right size can be daunting. And proper fit is especially important for dogs. Wearing anything on their bodies is an alien concept to them, and they will not be comfortable with the experience if they feel constricted or their movement is hindered. Improper fit can even be dangerous -- too tight can impair blood circulation or interfere with natural movement and breathing, and garments that are too loose can create safety hazards by tangling in your dog's legs or falling down over their eyes.

COLLARS

For measuring the neck take a tape measure and place the starting tip at the center of your dogs neck-now run it down under the neck and back up until it meets up at the tip where you started from-be careful not to pull the tape too tightly as this will squeeze the neck. Allow about an inch for room for the collar to be comfortable depending upon the type of fabric or leather.

T-SHIRT & JACKETS

Place the measuring tape at the base of the head at the back where the neck ends and pull it all way till where the body ends and the tail begins. This is your length. Now place the tape at the center of your dogs back and roll it under the body-this will give you the width.Keep a margin for Cotton T shirts that may tend to shrink when washed. The attached chart is a general guideline for sizes of common breeds.
